DENVER — Governor Jared Polis signed an executive order over the weekend, extending an earlier mandate requiring workers in critical businesses and critical government functions to wear non-medical cloth face coverings while at work and while serving the public.

The executive order extends the mask requirement for 30 days, until June 16. The order can be extended and does not apply to the general public. However, many Colorado communities, including the city and county of Denver, have a mask-wearing requirement for residents entering public places.

The Denver order requires residents and employees to wear face coverings while inside of, or waiting in line to enter, certain businesses, facilities or locations, such as retail stores, bus stops or health care facilities. Anyone violating the order could face a civil penalty of up to $999 per violation
