DENVER — We’re getting a better picture of the spread of COVID-19 behind bars in Colorado. The Department of Corrections is now providing regularly updated testing numbers online.
The numbers as of Friday shows that the Sterling Correction Facility remains the state’s largest COVID-19 outbreak among DOC facilities by a large margin. The facility has 329 positive cases and has reported two deaths from the disease.
The only other state prison showing a significant number of positive cases is the Crowley County Correctional Facility with 37 cases. There is one active case at the Denver Reception & Diagnostic Center and a case listed as “recovered” at the Bueana Vista Correctional Complex.
There are no other active cases at the state’s 20 other facilities after a total of 1,823 tests were administered as of Friday. Additional testing occurred throughout the weekend and numbers will continue to be updated as information is received and recorded.
