DENVER — It's going to be a dry summer at city parks.

Denver Parks and Recreation on Thursday issued a temporary directive prohibiting the possession and consumption of beer, wine and champagne from city parks beginning Friday, through July 23.

Parks remain open but city officials are hoping the move encourages residents to continue social distancing and staying home, when possible. Possession and consumption of liquor remains prohibited in city parks.

Denver Parks and Recreation is also prohibiting group sports and activities, and shared use of equipment, such as football and frisbees, in parks during the COVID-19 response. The city is monitoring parks to enforce the social distancing guidelines.

Denver city recreation centers are still closed in response to the coronavirus.
