PD: Suspected Colorado Springs intruder arrested

Posted

An alleged Colorado Springs intruder who police said broke into a girl's room, crawled into her bed and tried to pull her underwear down, has been taken into custody.

Members of the El Paso County SWAT team found and arrested Robert O'Bryant, 55, of El Paso County, on Wednesday, an officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department said in a statement.

The alleged break-in happened in the area of Airport Road and South Powers Boulevard on Nov. 16 at around 2 a.m.

"The juvenile victim was awoken by a knocking sound at her bedroom window," Colorado Springs Police said. "The male suspect climbed through the child’s bedroom window."

The girl's father told Denver7 Reporter Jaclyn Allen that the man crawled into his 9-year-old daughter's bed and pulled down her underwear.

"He told her, 'If you scream again, I’m going to hurt you, and that’s when she screamed top of her lungs," he said. "And that’s what woke us up. I’m so proud of her because of that. It’s amazing."

Police said the attacker left through the bedroom window, but was caught on surveillance video walking towards the home and away from the home.

His mini van was also caught on video.

O'Bryant was taken into custody on charges of sexual assault on a child, second-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespass, and multiple counts of indecent exposure.
