A former El Paso County sheriff's deputy accused of shooting his wife to death while three of the couple's four children were home will be held without bail until his probable trial.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reports 32-year-old Nikolas Anthony Gianes is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 28 on a charge of second-degree murder in the death of Fawn Gianes. He is expected to plead not guilty.

Fawn Gianes was shot in the neck at the couple's Colorado Springs home Oct. 16. Nikolas Gianes, a combat veteran who served six years as a deputy before resigning in 2012 after a DUI, says he shot his wife in self-defense after she pulled a pistol on him.

Jail documents do not list an attorney for him.
