Gun cleaning during party ends with man shot

Posted

A night of drinking ended with a man shooting his brother in the arm, police said.

The brothers, plus two other men, told Colorado Springs police officers they were drinking Monday night when one member of the group brought out a gun and started cleaning it.

The gun owner told officers he handed the gun to Matthew Spurling.

"Spurling mishandled the gun and shot the victim in the arm," police said.

The victim was Spurling's brother.

The victim was taken to the hospital. Police said his injuries are non-life threatening.

Spurling was taken to jail on suspicion of second degree assault, police said.
