EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. — An El Paso County sheriff's deputy was arrested on assault charges involving an incident with an inmate, officials said Monday.
Christopher Rogers, 24, faces charges of third-degree assault and first-degree official misconduct, according to the sheriff's office.
The charges stemmed "from on-duty conduct between Rogers and an inmate" on May 16, the sheriff's office said. A news release did not provide more information about what happened but said another deputy intervened and reported the incident.
Rogers was placed on administrative leave on May 18 and fired Monday. He had been employed by the sheriff's office since January 2016 and was assigned to the detention bureau.
