Police in Colorado Springs shot and killed a man they say approached them with an alcoholic drink in one hand and a gun in the other.
The Gazettereports officers were responding to 911 calls about the 25-year-old man and confronted him in a convenience store parking lot on the city's southeast side Wednesday morning.
Police said the man pointed his weapon at the officer.
"The officer gave verbal commands for the subject to drop the weapon, which were not followed and the officer discharged his firearm striking the subject," Colorado Springs police said.
The man, whose name has not been released, died at a hospital.
The officer who fired the fatal shot has been placed on paid administrative leave.
