Investigators say human remains found in the chimney of a Woodland Park cabin are those of a teenager who was reported missing seven years ago.
Teller County Coroner Al Born said Tuesday that dental records were used to determine the remains are those of Joshua Vernon Maddux, who was 18 when he was reported missing in May 2008. The coroner says Maddux was a "tall, skinny kid" and was probably trying to shimmy down the chimney when he apparently got stuck.
The Colorado Springs Gazette reports Chuck Murphy, who owns the cabin, was tearing down the building as part of his Wildernest development when his crew found the body Aug. 7. The cabin had been unoccupied for a decade.
