A dog owner is facing charges of unlawful ownership of a dangerous dog after three Great Danes reportedly mauled 4 children during a routine check on a dog breeding house this weekend in El Paso County.

Three of the children required surgery and a fourth child was injured from multiple bite injuries around the head and torso, and possibly on their extremities in the vicious attacks on Saturday, according to Sheriff's spokeswoman Jackie Kirby.

The attack happened after a woman took her children to her boss' home on Johnson Road in the small town of Rush, where the man breeds dogs.

The facility is called Rare Danes and it's run by Mike Ingersoll.

The woman told authorities while checking on animals in a barn, she heard screams and found four children had been attacked by the dogs.

Since the attack, one child has been released from the hospital but three are still being treated. The dogs are under the control of the Humane Society and are under quarantine until the investigation of the attack is over, Kirby said.

A Humane Society spokesperson told Denver7 the dogs will likely be euthanized.

The cause of the attack was not immediately known.
