The reward for public service in Basalt is going to be a bit richer after the April elections, as the City Council has voted to increase salaries.

The Aspen Times reports that the council on Tuesday unanimously voted to increase the pay for the mayor and city council members by 30 percent after the election. Only three council seats will see pay increases this year, with the other three seats receiving raises after the April 2018 elections.

Members of the board can't vote for pay raises for themselves but they can vote to adjust the pay for future terms.

After the election, the mayor will be paid $18,750 annually and the three newly elected city council members will receive $12,500 a year.
