Families facing homelessness can often lose hope. But 7Everyday Hero Terry Fitzmorris is changing that.
She gives her time so others can be self sufficient.
"If you are committed to helping people, it's your life," said Fitzmorris.
Fitzmorris gives her time at The Action Center in Lakewood. The Jefferson County non-profit helps people who have encountered a crisis.
"Whether it is a divorce, a loss of a job, something that has disrupted their capacity to maintain that sense of self sufficiency for themselves and their families," said Mag Strittmatter, Executive Director, The Action Center.
"We are the place where families go when they are in crisis and cannot feed their kids. They often don't have any clothes or they are homeless," said Fitzmorris.
Fitzmorris has been volunteering at The Action Center since the 1960s, when a group of churches started this effort. She started by volunteering, then worked at the center for 32 years, and now she volunteers again. Fitzmorris has never stopped giving, smiling and caring for others.
"Terry has passion beyond passion. She lives the mission," said Strittmatter.
"What more can you do in your life than helping people? And it's very easy to work here," added Fitzmorris.
The Action Center creates stability for more than 25,000 people every year. It does so with dignity and grace, thanks to enthusiastic staff and volunteers like Fitzmorris.
