Volunteer provides rocking chairs for new moms

Imagine never being rocked to sleep as a baby -- something that's important for both mother and child.
7Everyday Hero Deb Sanders is helping moms and their babies feel safe and secure. She gives away new or gently used rocking chairs to moms in need.
"It's through referral. The moms are referred through the agencies that work with moms in need," said Sanders.
Sanders' nonprofit is called "Mommy Rocks," which operates under the Colorado Nonprofit Development Center.
"It's either a rocker or diapers for many. A lot of the moms that we see have no furniture. They have, maybe, a kitchen chair," said Sanders.
New moms, like Leah Skinner, are very appreciative of Sanders and Mommy Rocks.
"I love it. I love the rocking chair," said Skinner.
"The chair gives them an actual place of their own to nurse their baby, feed their baby, bond with their child, instead of sitting on the floor trying to soothe a baby," said Sanders.
St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Lakewood provides a space for Mommy Rocks, so Sanders can have an inviting place for the new moms to come choose a gently used or new rocker.
"She has a very loving heart and wants to be there for young mothers," said St. Paul's Episcopal Church Parish Coordinator, Kathy Breit.
Thanks to donations, Sanders' Mommy Rocks effort has provided more than 760 rocking chairs to moms across Colorado for 14 years.
And Sanders also surprises the moms with gift bags filled with diapers, clothing and books.
"This is like a mini baby shower for them," said Sanders.
