Zoo Lights is underway at the Denver Zoo and Denver7 is a proud sponsor. It takes a big team to make this event happen, including 7Everyday Hero Bob Burrell.
With two million lights spread over 70 acres of the Denver Zoo, Zoo Lights attracts more than 150,000 people every year.
"It has expanded this year. We've got some new sculptures. It's in the Primate Panorama area," said volunteer Bob Burrell.
Bob Burrell would know. He helps coordinate all the volunteers for special events at the Zoo, like Zoo Lights.
"We have between 12 and 16 volunteers here every evening," said Burrell.
Burrell is one of 600 volunteers at the Denver Zoo.
"The volunteers bring a passion and commitment to the zoo that they can bring all the time," said Angie Panos, Director of Adult Volunteer Programs.
Volunteers, like Burrell, often have more time than staffers to be out on zoo grounds helping guests.
Burrell is a knowledgeable docent, who has given his time here for 26-years.
I have told him before he's one of our silent leaders," said Panos.
Burrell is soft spoken, but brings a lot of administrative experience to the table. He is a retired Jefferson County Principal and a current assistant fire chief in Golden.
