Saint Joe's Hospital in Denver has been helping people heal since 1873. Some of that healing begins with 7Everyday Hero Polly Coleman. She gives her time twice a week at the hospital's gift shop.
"She is totally about our mission of caring for not just the patient, but for the patient's families and for the staff that care for the patients, too," said Sister Renee Washut about Coleman.
Coleman is 90 years young and is a near-lifetime volunteer at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Denver.
"Polly has been a volunteer for St. Joe's hospital for over 25 years. Which includes 17,000 hours plus of volunteer service," said Lea Chapan, Assistant in the St. Joe's Volunteer Office.
"I did a lot of volunteer in the valley, the San Luis Valley," said Coleman.
Polly grew up on a ranch in Saguache County and her family always turned to St. Joe's in Denver for their medical needs.
"When I moved up here, it was just a natural to come here to volunteer," said Coleman of St. Joe's.
"She has taken the rancher's spirit and brought it to working with the volunteers. Because she has this vim and vigor about life, a naturalness about life, which I think comes from those roots," said Washut.
"She is a fundraiser. She helped raise money to build the new hospital. She's just a great person," said Chapan.
"I enjoy the people. There are a lot of people that are having a hard time and you hope you can put a little joy in their life," said Coleman.
