7Everyday Hero Norma Sierota volunteers to make lives brighter at Shalom Cares in Aurora

Posted
7Everyday Heroes often give their time in multiple ways and for years on end. This week's outstanding volunteer has spent a lifetime helping others.

"I call bingo.  I come here every Monday," said Norma Sierota.

Norma Sierota is proof that volunteering does not have to be complicated. She has learned that a simple helping hand can mean the world to others.

On Mondays, she gives her time at Shalom Cares in Aurora, which provides healthcare services to mostly seniors.

"I know they are looking forward to playing bingo," said Sierota.

Sierota has spent a lifetime putting others first.

"She will go out of her way for anybody and do anything she possibly can," said Evie Barash, Norma's friend.

"So, if there's not a blizzard, I come here like clockwork, 3:30 to 4:30 every Monday," said Sierota.

Sierota keeps busy volunteering on the other days of the week, as well.

"I read for the talking books library for the blind.  And I have done that for 35 years," said Sierota.

Sierota has also served with Hadassah, a Jewish volunteer organization.

"We have more than 350,000 members, worldwide," added Sierota.

"She is very special.  She is a beautiful lady, in and out," said Barash.

"I just do it because it's the right thing to do and I feel good about it," said Sierota.
