DENVER -- There is a significant army behind the Salvation Army. They are volunteers who help that agency help thousands of Coloradans and 7Everyday Hero Jeff Townsend is among them.
He founded the Townsend Foundation, which helps the Salvation Army in several ways, like the Lambuth Center.
"Lambuth is a transitional housing program for families. Most are here between six months and a year," said Capt. Stacy Antonovich of the Salvation Army.
And every month the children at the Lambuth Center get a birthday party, complete with cake and presents for every child. All of it is thanks to the Townsend Foundation.
"I have been involved with helping the Salvation Army for about 15-plus years," Townsend said.
Townsend says he has fun helping others. Over the years he has encouraged his employees and clients to help the Salvation Army financially -- with toy and backpack drives and as bell ringers during the holidays.
"After they ring. Jeff comes in and matches every single thing that was raised for that one day," said Tahreem Prasha-Glenn with the Salvation Army.
"My wife and I have been very blessed with an incredible business and staff and clients. And we really wanted to give back to the community," Townsend said.
"The impact that he has is huge on our kids being able to be kids," Antonovich said.
"Those kids would not have a birthday parity of it wasn't for Jeff Townsend," Prasha-Glenn said.
