7Everyday Hero George Slack volunteers at the Weld County Humane Society

Volunteer uses photography to help save pets
Posted
EVANS, Colo. -- 7Everyday Hero George Slack turned his hobby into something that is not only fun, but it also helps save lives.

He gives his time at the Weld County Humane Society in Evans, Colorado.

"He is the photographer for our animals, our cats and dogs.  He photographs our special events, he helps clean, he helps with just about anything that needs to be done," said Elaine Hicks, executive director, Weld County Humane Society.

Taking photographs of the animals is George's specialty. It is fun for him.

And it helps the animals because capturing that perfect picture can attract a family wanting to adopt a pet that much faster.

"I just know from experience that if I can get the right picture we have a better chance of finding them a forever home," said Slack.

"It is fabulous.  He really knows how to set the camera up and get the right shot," said fellow volunteer Carol Kaplan.

Slack has given his time at the shelter every week for seven years.

"I don't know what we'd do without George.  He does a little bit of everything," said Hicks.

Slack's photos look so good the shelter has seen its pets adopted faster.

He says he couldn't do it without Kaplan.

Slack says he is the photography buff and Kaplan is the animal handler.

Some animals would rather play than have their picture taken, But Slack and Kaplan love animals and have plenty of patience.
