DENVER – Chances are that if you have not made plans to see the Great American Eclipse in Wyoming, you’ll be staying for the show in Denver (and other parts of Colorado).

Here are some things you can do from Denver and the Front Range to enjoy an astronomical event 38 years in the making.

1. Head out to the Museum of Nature and Science

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science is hosting events all day on Monday, Aug. 21, for the Great American Eclipse. There is a general admission price you’ll have to pay to get in and participate, however.

Events range from safe solar-scope viewing, to becoming an eclipse explorer with the National Park Service, to “Eclipsercise.”

Find out about their other events taking place through the day by clicking here.

2. Fly and see the eclipse from the skies (but please have your eclipse viewing glasses with you)

Southwest Airlines is taking the astronomical adventure one step beyond by flying you through the path of totality during the Great American Eclipse.

The Points Guy reports the following three flights were picked by the airline due to their path and peak viewing time of the solar eclipse.

  • Flight WN1969 from Denver to Atlanta departs at 9:50 a.m.
  • Flight WN1577 from Denver to St. Louis leaves at 10:20 a.m.
  • Flight WN301 from Denver to Nashville departs at 10:20 a.m.

3. View the Great American Eclipse by traveling to the slopes

Ski resorts are mostly closed in the summer, and this rare astronomical experience is the perfect excuse to get out and get to the slopes.

Take a gondola ride to Eagle’s Nest and prepare for a guided hike to a prime viewing spot! If you wish to stay the night before, the Lodge at Vail is offering savings on lodging starting at $161.

4. Want to go to another mountain? Then travel to Beaver Creek to watch the eclipse

At over 9,000 feet, spectators will get the chance of their lifetime to view the eclipse from atop Beaver Creek Mountain. There will be a guided hike, a picnic lunch and a 4x4 adventure tour. The experience starts at $175. Reservations can be made by calling (970) 754-6643.

5. Take a cruise and view the eclipse from the seas

The Royal Caribbean has a Total Eclipse Cruise package onboard the Oasis of the Seas. The once-in-a-lifetime sailing experience will feature a live concert by DNCE in the ship’s AquaTheater to celebrate this astronomical phenomenon.

Bonnie Tyler will be singing “Total Eclipse of the Hear” as a duet with DNCE.

For more information, head to the Royal Caribbean’s website.

6. Kids will learn about the astronomical event through an Eclipse Lab Day

The more than 60,000 students at the Cherry Creek Schools District will have the opportunity to learn about the Great American Eclipse through a district-wide Solar Eclipse Outdoor Lab Day.
