Colorado Gives Day 2015 raises $28.4 million

Posted

People opened their hearts - and their wallets - and donated $28.4 million to charity on Colorado Gives Day.

That breaks the record set last year - which was $26.2 million.

In 24 hours, people made 123,999 donations to 1,884 nonprofits, organizers said.

Colorado Gives Day is a statewide celebration to increase online giving.

FirstBank is a sponsor of the event and donated $600,000 in total to this year’s program.

“We believe that investing in the community is not only the right thing to do, but also good business, and we’re proud to serve as the corporate sponsor for a movement that supports more than 1,900 nonprofit organizations statewide,” said John Ikard, CEO of FirstBank Holding Company.

Since its inception in 2010, the event has raised more than $111 million for Colorado nonprofits, organizers say.
