We've got the best Christmas meal deals for you

Posted

Christmas is a time for celebrating with family and friends. It's also a time for good food and fun. But, just because it's about food, doesn't mean it has to be expensive.

Depending on your menu, you may pay more for your Christmas meal than for Thanksgiving because in many households the traditional meal is a roast or ham, which typically cost more than a turkey.  Also retailers discount traditional Thanksgiving meal items much more than they do at Christmas time. Using the ShopSmart Digital Circulars and the uGrocery app, I’ve compared the prices of 50 of the most popular meal items for Christmas dinner – everything from the roast to the stuffing and potatoes and you can see the best deals below.

If prime rib is on your Christmas menu, the best place to buy this is at Safeway or King Soopers where they are both offering USDA Choice bone-in ribeye roasts and boneless New York strip roasts for $5.77/lb., Walmart has the ribeye roasts for $6.97 and Target has the Sutton & Dodge USDA Choice Ribeye Roasts for $9.99/lb.

If turkey is on your list - you can still get a great deal at Walmart where the Festive Brand turkey is $.63/lb., or Target has the Market Pantry brand frozen turkey's for $.79/lb., King Soopers has the Kroger brand frozen turkeys for $.99/lb. and Safeway has the Honeysuckle Frozen Turkey's for $1.49/lb.

For the Christmas ham, you can get a bone-in ham shank for as low as $.98/lb. at Safeway, $.99 per lb. at King Soopers, $1.54 at Walmart or $1.99 at Target (remember that Target and Walmart will match advertised prices at their customer service department for like brands).  If you prefer the spiral sliced ham, Safeway is offering the Hormel Cure 81 Spiral Sliced Ham for $1.69/lb. and King Soopers has the Kroger Spiral Sliced Ham for $1.69/lb. Walmart and Target both have spiral sliced hams for $1.98 - $1.99/lb.

See below for the best deals on all the Christmas sides, desserts, rolls and more in this comprehensive meal price comparison of 50 of the most popular Christmas meal items from the roast to the potatoes and fresh cranberries.   Use the Shop Smart search feature if there is something on your list not featured below, or the free uGrocery app to determine the best place to shop and save on your Christmas groceries!
