DENVER - For the popular shopping website Amazon, the first day of November serves as Black Friday. The retailer has already started discount pricing.
"For the last few years November first has been the kick off for a few major retailers for holiday shopping seasons,” said Brent Shelton of the website BFAds.net.
Shelton said Amazon is offering “lightning sales,” quick promotions that are in place for a limited time.
Tuesday on Amazon, Denver7 found a Kindle E-Reader at 25 percent off. A Kitchen Aid Steel Cooker was on sale for more than 60 percent off. In addition, Denver7 spotted an LG Flat Screen TV more than 30 percent off.
"Like laptops or specific TVs that are in limited quantity already, they're going to sell out pretty quickly, and they're going to be reasonably priced, because they're older stock, they might not be available come Black Friday. So, if you're in the market for something that's kind of big-ticket item, it's really worth looking right now," said Shelton.
Competitors are paying attention. Best Buy had a flash sale. Shelton said others, such as Walmart, are matching prices.
"If you go compare a lot of the prices right now, they're changing these prices on the fly to make sure they're very competitive," he said.
Shelton said in most cases, clothing will see discounts later in the season.
In most cases, online shopping promotions beat those in the store, said Shelton, adding many retailers provide free shipping. Store visits should be considered when you're not clear about the quality of the merchandise, he added.
