How to ski for free this weekend in Colorado

DENVER – We may be more than a month into spring, but if you’re from Colorado you know that means nothing to Mother Nature.

The latest spring snowstorm that’s rolling through Colorado is expected to bring more than a foot of fresh, powdery snow to the mountains with more to come over the weekend.

But the storm isn’t just bringing fresh powder to the higher elevations – it’s also brining some incredible deals if you’re looking to squeeze the last drop of the ski season.

Arapahoe Basin

A-Basin is offering late-season one-day tickets for just $65, according to its website.

The ski resort is on track to having one of the best seasons to date, director of marketing and sales at A-Basin Leigh Heirholzer told Denver7 earlier this week.

Heirholzer said the snow came at the right time, and that the snowpack was above average for both December and January, which held them through the next couple of months without problems.

The resort is projected to close for the season on June 4.

Loveland Ski Area

Loveland Ski Area is getting lucky with the latest snowstorm that’s moving across the state.

While the resort experienced a dry spell during the months of February and March, marketing director John Sellers told Denver7 that in just the past four days, the resort has seen over 21 inches of snow and are expecting anywhere from three to seven inches by Friday night.

“We’re excited about the incoming snowstorm,” Sellers said. “It’s a good way for us to finish off the season.”

If you want to ski in Loveland, one-day lift tickets are only $60, but that’s not the only deal.

Sellers said if you buy your 2017-2018 season pass now, you can enjoy the rest of this season for free at Loveland Ski Area.

The resort is projected to close for the season on May 7.

Purgatory Resort

Purgatory has the best deal as they prepare to end the ski season.

After picking up five inches of snow on Thursday, officials announced via Twitter Friday that they will be offering free lift tickets to all guests this weekend.

So far this year, the resort has seen a total of 286 inches of snow on the ground, or about 22 feet.

And all that snow has paid off.

“This is the latest Purgatory has been open in our history,” said Purgatory Resort director of communications Kim Oyler. “All that snow allowed us to extend the season.”

The resort is projected to close for the season on Sunday.
