DENVER -- Denver International Airport has done it again -- the month of September was the busiest month in the airport's history, breaking yet another record for a 13th consecutive month.

The airport welcomed a total of 5.1 million passengers, a DIA spokesperson said.

“This was the first September in Denver history with more than 5 million passengers,” airport CEO Kim Day said. “Our airline partners continue to experience strong growth, a reflection of Denver’s robust economy, which is generating a high propensity to travel and strong inbound demand for visitors traveling to Colorado.”

Year-to-year traffic was up 8.2 percent during the same period last year.

A total of 171,118 international passengers traveled through the airport in September 2016, an increase of 16.1 percent higher than September 2015.

Mail, freight and express cargo operations saw 47,405,681 pounds of cargo in September 2016, an increase of 0.5 percent compared to the same month in 2015.
