Cyber safety tips for the online shopping season

DENVER -- Shoppers are expected to spend $6.6 billion online on Cyber Monday, up more than 16 percent from a year ago, according to Adobe Analytics — and more people will use their phones.

Adobe says web traffic from smartphones and tablets is expected to top desktop computers for the first time this year.

Denver7 spoke to Cyber Safety Expert Mark Turnage on tips you need to stay protected

1. Never click on a link that comes to you on your email. The link will likely take you to a fraudulent website.

2. Don't shop on an unsecured wireless network. It's very easy for someone to intercept.

3. When accessing websites look for the letter "s" at the end of "Http."

4. Chang up your password in case it gets stolen from one website, and remember to always check your bank statements.

Jason Gaines with Device Pitstop in Denver says during Cyber Monday many people sell their gadgets online without deleting their information, which allows thieves to steal your personal information.

“If you are going to sell an iPad or an iPhone, it’s basically the same procedure. You want to make sure that all of your information is cleared off of it,” said Jason Gaines.
