DENVER -- The end of free parking at Cherry Creek Mall is nigh. The mall began testing the new “smart parking” system this week. It will start charging shoppers who use the mall’s parking structures come January 2017.
The daily max rate is $16. The first hour is free, followed by $3 for the second hour, an extra dollar for hour three, and an additional $2 each hour thereafter.
Mall management said they were forced to install paid parking because of the continued growth of the area. Many people were using the spaces but not shopping at the mall.
The new system will allow customers to instantly see how many spaces are available. Signs will also direct them to the most convenient spots.
More information about smart parking is available on the Cherry Creek Shopping Center website.
