DENVER -- Hanukkah begins Sunday night. It is the Jewish eight-day, wintertime “festival of lights,” celebrated with a nightly menorah lighting, special prayers and fried foods.
Rabbi Mendel Sirota of Denver says the Hebrew word Chanukah means “dedication,” and is thus named because it celebrates the rededication of the Holy Temple.
Sirota says the central observance of Hanukkah is the menorah. Sirota says one candle can light many lives.
