DENVER – For nearly 10 years, several uniquely painted pianos have decorated the path along the 16th St. Mall thanks to a program that encourages citizens and tourists alike to interact with their public spaces in new and creative ways.
The pianos are part of Your Keys to the City, a public piano art program managed by the Downtown Denver Business Improvement District that encourages people to spend some time exploring the sights and sounds of the 16th St. Mall.
But inclement weather and upkeep do take their toll, which is why city officials are asking Colorado artists to come forward and submit designs for 10 new pianos that will appear on the mall beginning in May.
Ten winning designs will be chosen on May 1 and each artist will be reimbursed for supplies up to $150.
If you’d like to participate, you are asked to submit your design by April 19 to Katie Toney at ktoney@downtowndenver.com.
