Some medications safe to take during pregnancy

Many of us are fighting seasonal allergies, but if you're pregnant, you could be battling something that's tougher to kick.

In this week's Basics of Babies segment, our partners at Saint Joseph's Hospital say the first thing pregnant women need find out, is whether it's actually common seasonal allergies that's giving them grief.

"There is another entity though called pregnancy rhinitis, which is nasal congestion that is specific just to pregnant patients," said Dr. Katie Rustici.

Doctors say pregnancy rhinitis is better treated with a saline nasal rinse, rather than over-the-counter allergy medication.

It's always safest to speak with your doctor before taking any medications, especially while pregnant, but doctors say most over-the-counter medications are safe for pregnant women to take.
