DENVER -- National Prescription Take-Back Day is this Saturday, Oct. 22, and the Denver Police Department is participating this year by accepting prescription drugs at several different locations this weekend.

The drop-off is meant for residents to get rid of their prescription medications in a way that is both environmentally safe and reduces the risk of drug misuse or abuse, but take note: The drop-off sites will not accept needles or sharps, mercury thermometers, oxygen containers, chemotherapy or radioactive substances, illicit drugs or pressurized canisters.

These are the 7 different locations where police will be accepting prescription drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.:

  • Denver Police District 1 - 1311 West 46th Avenue
  • Denver Police District 2 - 3921 Holly Street
  • Denver Police District 3 - 1625 South University Boulevard
  • Denver Police District 4 - 2100 South Clay Street
  • Denver Police District 5 - 4685 Peoria Street
  • Denver Police District 6 - 1566 Washington Street
  • Denver Police Museum - 1331 Cherokee Street

The Drug Enforcement Agency says law enforcement agencies collected 893,498 pounds of unwanted medicines (the weight equivalent of 192 police patrol SUVs) during the most recent drug take-back day event in May.
