Basics of Babies: Helping them with allergies

During the changing spring weather, many of us have to battle allergies, even babies have them.

In this week’s Basics of Babies, we’re learning the allergies they often have to deal with, are mainly in the home.

Our partners at Saint Joseph’s Hospital say that’s because they get more exposure to things in the home versus outside.

Things like dust, mold and pet dander.

But babies can show the same symptoms as older children and adults.

“So, runny nose, watery eyes, red eyes, all the things you’d expect in an older child or an adult, you could still see with a baby,” said Dr. Laura Luzietti, a pediatrician with Rocky Mountain Youth Clinics.

Some things doctors say you can do to help decrease babies exposure to allergens is wash their beds in hot water once a week, keep pets out of their bedroom, or even get air purifiers for your home.

Editor's note: Dr. Laura's last name is Luzietti, not Luzetti, as it appears on the video above.
