What foods need to be stored in the fridge?

Do I keep this in the fridge, or do I store it in the pantry? Sometimes you can do both depending on how long you want the food to last.

Here are different foods and where they can be stored.

Butter

You can keep a few days’ worth of butter out at room temperature, and the rest should be in the fridge. You can leave a little out because butter is mostly fat, which makes it less attractive to bacteria.

Eggs

If you bought eggs in the states, you need to put them in the fridge. Eggs in the states are washed with soap and hot water; it removes a protective outer layer.

Apples

Apples should be kept cold. If you’re eating them within a week, you can keep them out. If you do keep them out, know that they give off a gas that will speed up the ripening process for everything else you have out.

Peaches and plums

Anything with the “stone” in the middle, like peaches and plums, should be kept in the fridge once it is ripe.

Nuts

Nuts should actually be kept in the fridge. The oil in them makes them spoil. At room temperature, nuts will only last a few months. If you keep them in a ridge, they can last up to a year.

Flour

You can keep flour out, but if you keep flour in a fridge, it can last up to two years.
