BROOMFIELD, Colo. – Legacy High School students will see an increase in police presence Tuesday morning after a threatening note was found written on a desk Monday.

The exact nature of the threat is not known. However, Broomfield police believe the threat is connected to an incident from last week involving a student who was ultimately suspended.

That student was disciplined for making threatening remarks toward another student, police say. The suspended student returned to school grounds Monday and was arrested for trespassing. The note was discovered shortly after the student was arrested.

School officials sent the following letter home to parents:

In our effort to keep you informed of important issues affecting our school, I want to make you aware of information we received regarding a potential threat to our school.

The safety of our school is our priority and any report of a potential threat to the school is taken seriously. After receiving the information, school administration and Broomfield Police immediately began investigating to determine the validity of the threat. This morning, a student was taken into custody by Broomfield Police for further questioning. That student will not be attending school until the investigation is concluded.

As a precaution, we will have increased security presence and continued police presence at the school tomorrow.

As a reminder, we encourage students or parents to contact a trusted adult at the school or Safe2Tell if they have knowledge of this incident, or of anything that could compromise safety to the Legacy community.
