At least 2 Jeffco moms remove their sons from Westridge Elementary due to bullying

LITTLETON, Colo. -- At least two Jefferson county families say more needs to be done to keep their kids safe at school after they say bullying went too far at Westridge Elementary.

One of the alleged incidents involved Carter Kelton’s son whom she says was shoved with a tray and some of the hot food spilled on him.

Kelton told Denver7 her son was then punched in the stomach by the same classmate who spilled food on him. She reported the incident to the Jefferson’s County Sheriff’s Office.

But Kelton isn't the only one worried about the alleged bullying going on at school.

Amy Dougherty said her son was also bullied by the same classmate verbally and physically.

Both moms pulled their sons out of school and have placed them in counseling.

Dougherty approached the school board and was told the student in question has displayed behavior problems in the past, but none rising to the level of an assault on a classmate and not at the level of reporting it to police.

“Bullying is rampant and the violation of codes of conduct is rampant as well. We want written policies that hold schools accountable to their codes of conduct,” said Amy Dougherty.

Jeffco Public Schools released the following statement to Denver 7 regarding the alleged bullying:

“The school and district staff have been working diligently will all the families impacted by these allegations. All complaints have been or are currently being investigated per district policy.”

Concerned parents are set to meet up with the board Thursday.
