DENVER – National Park Week starts this Saturday, so what better way to celebrate than to head to any of Colorado’s national parks this weekend… for free?
The National Park Service (NPS) is waving entrance fees to all parks this Saturday, April 21, 2018 – a great opportunity if you haven’t been to any this year.
Luckily for us, we don’t have to travel far to enjoy this great opportunity.
Colorado boasts not one, but four national parks, which are scattered across our beautiful state: Rocky Mountain National Park, Mesa Verde National Park, Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve and Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.
Don’t feel like going? You really should – NPS officials announced late last year they were cutting the number of free days visitors could enjoy at national parks in 2018 to four.
According to CNN, there were 10 free days at national parks in 2017. A year before, there was a total of 16 free days. To coincide with the 100th anniversary of the park service in 2016, the more than 400 national parks were free for a whole week.
That won’t happen this year.
A word of caution: The free day waiver does not cover amenity or user fees for activities such as camping, boat launches, transportation or special tours.
