DENVER – Every weekend, Denver7 compiles a list of some fun events you might enjoy. Here are our picks for the 7 best things to do in the Denver metro area this weekend.

1. Get into the Denver Zoo for free this Friday 

What: If you haven't been to the Zoo yet, why not head out there this Friday? The Denver Zoo is waiving entrance fees before its free days end for the rest of the year. Another free day will happen on Monday, Nov. 12.

When: Friday, November 9 and Monday, November 12, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

2. Salute our veterans at the Denver Veterans Parade and Festival 

What: Join thousands of people as Denver comes together to celebrate and commemorate our nation’s heroes. The Denver Veterans Parade and Festival takes place Saturday, with the parade starting at 10 a.m. and ending at noon, and the festival starting noon to 3 p.m. A 5K and 10K run takes place Sunday. More information on that can be found here. Registration for that run starts at 6:30 a.m.

3. Veterans, military members get in free to all Colorado's state and national parks this Sunday 

What: The state of Colorado is offering free admission to all of its state parks on Veterans Day this Sunday to veterans and active duty members of the military, military reserve and National Guard. The National Park Service is offering free admission to everyone in the state as part of Veterans Day.

When: Sunday, November 11, 2018.

4. See the world through the eyes of a woman filmmaker at the Rocky Mountain Women’s Film Festival

What: Presented by the Rocky Mountain Women's Film Institute, the 31st annual Rocky Mountain Wome's Film Festival will showcase new and emerging film talent, edgy genre fare, crowd-pleasing headliners, and world-class documentaries.    

Where: Films will be screened at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center - Sagaji Theater and Music Room, the Kathryn Mohrman Theatre at  Armstrong Hall, Richard F. Celeste Theater, and in the Film Screening Room at Cornerstone Arts Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. 

When: Friday, November 9 through Sunday, November 11, 2018

5. Free entrance to the Longmont Museum

What: The Longmont Museum, housed in a distinctive contemporary building, features changing exhibits in history, art, and science, as well as the award-winning Front Range Rising, a long-term exhibit on the history and culture of this region.

When: Saturday, February 10, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

6. Run the Great Candy Run at Wash Park!

What: Don't miss out on sweet fun for the whole family! The Great Candy Run is happening this Sunday in Wash Park, and includes a competitive Stroller Division and a free Kids Fun Run plus great entertainment and sweet treats!

When: Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Admission: $40 for adults; $30 for kids 12 and under and seniors 60+.

7. Farewell "party" at Govnr's Park Tavern

What: After more than four decades of laughter, friendship, food, libation and celebration, Govnr's Park Tavern in the Capitol Hill neighborhood is closing its doors this weekend. The restaurant is inviting everyone to bid the eatery farewell during its last two opening days.
