1. See hundreds of alpacas up close at the Great Western Alpaca Show
What: If you missed your chance to see these fluffy creatures back in March, you’ll have a second chance to do so this weekend. Hosted by the Alpaca Breeders of the Rockies, the free three-day show will feature alpacas competing in a ring competition, as well as classes judging conformation and fleece quality in many categories for both Suri and Huacaya alpacas
Where: National Western Complex, 4655 Humboldt St. in Denver
When: Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, May 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

2. Enjoy a leisurely stroll while looking at art during First Friday Art Walks
What: Come and enjoy the local art scene at Denver’s five art districts: Arts District Santa Fe, Golden Triangle Museum District, the Tennyson Street Cultural District and the RiNo Arts District.
Where: Denver Arts Districts (several locations)
When: Monthly on the first Friday of every month, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

3. Get in to the Denver Art Museum for free
What: Enjoy free admission to the Denver Art Museum. Note that special exhibitions will require a ticketed admission.

4. Looking for adventure? Dare to go inside the Museum of Colorado Prisons on a ghost hunt
What: Doing time must be terrifying but being surrounded by 140 years of frustrated spirits that are still waiting to be released inside a prison is just another level of scary. The Museum of Colorado Prisons is not only haunted by the inmates whose artifacts have been placed on display but also by the women who had the unfortunate opportunity to reside within the cells of its building.
Where: Museum of Colorado Springs, 201 N. 1st Cañon City, Colorado.
When: Friday, May 3 from 8:30 p.m. to Saturday, May 4 at 4 a.m.

5. Denver’s Cinco de Mayo Festival
What: Denver’s annual Cinco de Mayo “Celebrate Culture” Festival is taking over Civic Center Park this weekend as regional and international dancers will showcase the beauty of the Cinco de Mayo celebration in Latin American culture. There will also be Chihuahua races, a taco eating contest, a low-rider showcase. A parade starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Where: Denver’s Civic Center Park.
When: Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

6. You don’t have to travel out-of-state to enjoy the Kentucky Derby
What: Spread over four blocks in the heart of the city, the Denver Derby Party is the biggest party in the west outside of Kentucky! All proceeds go to the Searn Ranch Lough Foundation.
Where: Sculpture Park, 1345 Champa St. in Denver (behind the Denver Center for the Performing Arts).
When: Saturday, May 4 starting at at 12:30 p.m.

7. Love postcards? You might want to check out the Denver Postcard and Paper Ephemera Show
What: If you’re nostalgic about drive-ins, you’re probably also nostalgic about postcards. Good news? There will be plenty to reminisce about during the Denver Postcard and Paper Ephemera Show, where you’ll find antique and collectible Colorado postcards and much, much more.
Where: Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 15200 W. 6th Ave. in Golden, Colorado
When: Friday, May 3 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, May 4 from 9:30 am. to 4 p.m.
