A new half-hour comedy on Netflix will bring some serious celebrity power with comedian Jane Lynch and singer Cyndi Lauper starring in it.

Variety reports that Lynch let news of the show slip while backstage at the recent Creative Arts Emmys, which took place in advance of the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards this past weekend.

The show’s title hasn’t been revealed, but it is described as a comedy.

Hints of the series, which Lynch described as a “‘Golden Girls’ of today,” had also been previously dropped by a former “Seinfeld” writer who expressed her excitement to be working on the project back in July. Carol Leifer, whose writing work also includes “Saturday Night Live,” “The Larry Sanders Show,” and the Academy Awards, posted a picture with Lauper and Lynch, calling it “a writer’s dream to work with these two LEGENDS.”

Lynch accepted an award at the Creative Arts Emmys — she earned Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” which airs on Amazon Prime. It’s her fifth Emmy.

It was in her meeting with reporters after accepting the award she leaked information about the Netflix series-in-planning.

“I pitched a show to Netflix and they bought it,” Lynch told reporters. “I don’t know if I can even tell you, but it’s with Cyndi Lauper, so there! We’ll see.”

Lynch went on to provide a few scant details: in the new series, the actresses will play their actual ages; she is 60 and Lauper is 65. Two others will be hired to make up the cast of four women — characters who don’t have husbands or children.

You may have seen Lynch on your TV this summer as she again hosted the popular “Hollywood Game Night” on NBC. It is in its sixth season. And perhaps the actress has been heard more than seen lately, as she currently voices characters on multiple shows. These include Ava on “Final Space” and Dumper on “The Stinky & Dirty Show.”

Lauper has stayed busy performing her music and will soon be touring in Japan. This past spring, the superstar singer was seen on stage in Broadway’s Tony-award winning musical “Kinky Boots.”

She shared a photo of the cast on Instagram on the final day of the show’s run:

“The Golden Girls” ran on NBC from 1985-1992 and starred Betty White, Rue McClanahan, Bea Arthur and Estelle Getty as women living together in Miami. It often appears on lists of the best TV series of all time.

Netflix has not commented to any media inquiring about the new show. We don’t know more details, but we know the first half of the cast is brilliant and we can’t wait to see it!
