If you’re looking for a way to decorate your home for Halloween but would prefer some decor that’s more celestial than scary, this is the DIY for you. It’s easy to make a galaxy-inspired jack-o’-lantern to add a festive feeling to your home.

Letting the stars inspire your decor will definitely have you in the Halloween spirit without having to partake in the spider webs, toothy jack-o’-lantern grins and more. And the best part of all is that you don’t have to be an expert pumpkin carver to achieve the desired look. There are plenty of star-covered pumpkin ideas out there, so get ready to be inspired just in time for Halloween!

Galaxy Pumpkin

The blogger at Dream A Little Bigger created a handy tutorial that will walk you step-by-step through the process of making this far-out jack-o’-lantern. She uses a faux pumpkin, and if you choose to do the same, you can reuse this pumpkin year after year.

All you’ll need is a little paint, a pumpkin (real or fake), Christmas lights (or a candle) for a glowing effect and a drill (if you’re using a real pumpkin). Then, unleash your creativity to make a beautiful celestial scene.

Your finished product will look a little something like the pumpkin posted in this photo on Dream a Little Bigger’s Facebook page:

Constellation Pumpkin

Just adding a single constellation and a coat of black paint can give you the chic Halloween decor you’ve been searching for, as this tutorial from Design Sponge points out. Why go over the top when less is more? Once again, you’ll need a drill for this one. Once you’re done, the Big Dipper glows orange when you light it.

You can see the end result in Design Sponge’s Facebook post:

Seeing Stars Jack-O’-Lantern

A pumpkin, a drill and an X-Acto knife can help you bring this simple constellation design to life. Tea lights on the inside will light it perfectly at night, as this tutorial from 17 Apart demonstrates.

If you’re knowledgeable about the night sky, you can customize this pumpkin-carving project to include all your favorite constellations, as Twitter user @DragonnessRawr did.

No-Carve Constellation Pumpkin

If you’d rather avoid cutting into pumpkins altogether, you can still create constellations on the surface of a faux pumpkin instead. This tutorial from Shrimp Salad Circus calls for beads, paint and glue … and it shows that a no-carve pumpkin is just as fun to make, even though it doesn’t require power tools.

Michael’s also offers an online guide for making this no-carve constellation pumpkin, starting with a black pumpkin and adding glow-in-the-dark paints and other embellishments.

Moon And Stars Pumpkin

Whether you’re carving or not, the addition of a moon in your celestial scene could be the perfect touch. The Oh So Beautiful Paper blog shows how this can be done with stickers and paint, if you choose.

Twitter user @RRea1980 used acrylic paints to create some mystical moon-and-stars imagery on her pumpkin, complete with a spacey silver stem:
