FedEx has announced it will begindelivering packages seven days a week. The new plan to add Sundays to its delivery schedule will begin next year. As of now, the company only delivers on Sundays during the holiday season.

The additional day is meant to cater to the growing number of customers who do most, if not all, of their shopping online, a trend which shows no signs of shopping.

“FedEx Ground will deliver to residences every day of the week beginning in January 2020, because shoppers don’t run on business days — they run every day,” read a statement on the company’s Twitter account:

“We have made significant investments in capacity, technology and automation at FexEx Ground over the past 20 years,” president and chief operating offier of FedEx Corp. Raj Subramaniam said in apress release. “These investments have allowed us to gain ground market share for 19 of the last 20 years, and we are now ideally positioned to extend that growth as the average daily volume for small parcels in the U.S. is expected to double by 2026.”

FedEx says that year-round Sunday deliveries will be available for the majority of the population, although it didn’t specify where the service would be limited. The move is part of what the company calls “a transformation” that builds upon current operations to serve a fast-growing market.

“Expanding our operations to include Sunday residential deliveries further increases our ability to meet the demands of e-commerce shippers and online shoppers,” Subramaniam said.

In addition to Sunday deliveries, the company will also add nearly two million FexEx SmartPost packages that were previously delivered daily by the U.S. Postal Service to its own network, which will improve efficiency. FedEx expects most SmartPost packages to become incorporated into FedEx Ground by the end of 2020

Because people now buy more large and heavy items online, like TVs, furniture and auto parts, the company is also taking steps to ensure safe and reliable delivery of these items, including adding new facilities and equipment and making other operational adjustments. FedEx says big items make up about 10 percent of its FedEx Ground volume, and that percentage is expected to grow.

This will definitely speed up those deliveries! Will you be pleased to see the FedEx delivery truck outside your home on Sundays?
