Every weekend, Denver7 compiles a list of some family friendly events you might enjoy.  A county fair, a German Fest, the Wild West and trains are all on this weekend’s docket.  Here are our picks for the 7 best things to do in Denver this weekend.  

Thursday - Sunday

Arapahoe County Fair

What: It’s county fair time and this one is a bargain of a deal.  Daily admission includes the rodeo, heritage activities, 4-H exhibits and open class contests, a petting farm, tractor pulls, concerts, plus unlimited carnival rides.   And in case you didn’t get your fill on the 4th of July, there will be fireworks on both Friday and Saturday night.  It’s everything you could want from a county fair, and more.

Where: Arapahoe County Fairgrounds, 25690 E. Quincy Avenue, Aurora, Colo.

When:  Thursday: 4 p.m.-9 p.m.; and Friday - Sunday: 11 a.m.-11 p.m.

Admission: $15 – Daily Gate Admission (cash only); Kids under 36” tall get in free. Parking is $5.  (Discount tickets available online if purchased before 4 p.m. Thursday.)

Celebrate Colorado Day

What:  Join Denver7 for a block party as we celebrate Colorado’s Birthday.  Free T-shirts, music, food, games and more will fill the streets at Belmar. 

Where: Belmar, 464 S. Teller Street, Lakewood, Colo.

When: Friday: 2 p.m.-8 p.m.

German Fest Denver

What: Come dressed in your best Lederhosen or Dirndl to experience this eclectic celebration of German culture and custom.  Feast on your favorite German cuisine from Schnitzels and Sauerbraten to Strudels and Black Forest Cake.  Plus, you’ll also find German arts and crafts, kid’s activities, traditional German music and dancing, and of course a Biergarten.  

Where: Heritage Amusement Park, 18301 W. Colfax, Golden, Colo.

When:  Friday: 4 p.m.-9 p.m.; Saturday: 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; and Sunday: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Admission:  $7 – Adults; Kids under 10 years are free.

Buffalo Bill Days

What: Cowboys and cowgirls from across the range will want to head to Golden this weekend, where the Wild West will come alive at this marquee community event.   Arts and crafts, beer and bull riding, mutton bustin’, a car show, kid’s activities and live music will fill the weekend.  Plus Saturday’s parade and Cody’s Wild West extravaganza will be a spectacle the whole family will want to experience. 

Where: Festival and main stage located in Parfet Park, 10th Street and Washington Avenue, Golden, Colo.  (Other locations used for some activities. Check website for details.)

When:  Friday: 5 p.m.-10 p.m.; Saturday: 10 a.m.-10 p.m.; and Sunday: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.  (Check website for full schedule of events.)

Cheesman Park Arts Fest

What: Browse top-quality works of art in one of Denver’s most historic parks.  Over 130 juried artists and craftsmen from across the country will display original works from jewelry and paintings to sculpture and glass art.  Plus, you’ll enjoy music, creative demonstrations, food trucks and more.

Where: Cheesman Park, 1599 E. 8th Avenue, Denver, Colo.

Colorado Dragon Boat Festival

What: As the largest pan-Asian festival in the country, this family-friendly event has been a Denver tradition for 16 years. Watching the ancient spectacle of Dragon Boat Racing across Sloan’s Lake is must-do each summer. The festival also features traditional and contemporary cultural performances, a Culinary Dojo with authentic Asian cuisine and cooking demonstrations, and a colorful Asian Marketplace and Wellness Village. 

Where: Sloan’s Lake Park, 1700 N. Sheridan Blvd., Denver, Colo.

When:  Saturday: 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; and Sunday: 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Rocky Mountain Train Show

What: All aboard!  Conductors of all ages will marvel at over 80 tables of model trains, plus a chance to peek inside the cab of the world’s largest steam locomotive, The Union Pacific 4005.  A kids play area and food trucks will also be on-site.  Admission includes full access to the Forney Museum, which houses a paradise of trains, autos, bicycles and motorcycles sure to excite any transportation buff. 

Where:  The Forney Museum of Transportation, 4303 Brighton Blvd., Denver, Colo.

When: Saturday: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday: 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Admission: $9 – Adults; $5 - Kids 3-12 years old; Kids under 3 years are free.
