Every weekend, Denver7 compiles a list of some family friendly events you might enjoy.  Here are our picks for the 7 best things to do in Denver this holiday weekend.  

Thursday - Monday

The Denver Dog Show

What: It’s the Dog Days of Denver!  Over 3000 dogs will compete in events including conformation, rally, agility, obedience and of course, best in show.  Terrier breeds will be judged on Thursday, and Sunday and Monday will host the all-breeds show.  You’ll also be able to watch dogs perform each day, visit with dog owners and breeders, and pick up a special treat for your favorite pooch at one of the vendor booths.  

Where: National Western Complex, 4655 Humboldt Street, Denver, Colo.

When: Thursday – Monday: Doors open at 7:30 a.m.

Admission: $5 – Adults; Kids under 12 years are free.

Celestial Seasonings Factory Tour

What: Did you know you can tour Colorado’s very own Celestial Seasonings Factory for free?  Factory tours run every hour Monday through Sunday.  And every tour includes a whiff of the Mint Room, guaranteed to clear any stuffy nose.  Afterwards, be sure to visit the sampling bar with over 100 kinds of tea to taste.  Note that kids must be at least 5 years old to tour the factory floor.

Where: Celestial Seasonings, 4600 Sleepytime Drive, Boulder, Colo.

When:  Mondays Saturdays: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; and Sundays: 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Denver Jewish Film Festival

What: Celebrating exceptional unsung heroes, this year’s festival will include 32 films that showcase Jewish and Israeli cinema, all weaving a common thread of the extraordinary acts and existence.  Make it a movie marathon, choosing the films that peak your interest.

Hammond’s Candy Factory Tour

What: Need a fix for your sweet tooth?  Take a tour of Hammond’s Candy Factory.  Tours run every half-hour Monday through Saturday.  Watch candy makers as they hand-pull and twist oversize candy canes, ribbon candy, lollipops and chocolate.  It’s educational fun for candy lovers of all ages.  And bonus, every tour guest gets a free candy sample.

Bumblebee Jamboree

What: Dance and sing like a butterfly.  Dress as your favorite pollinator and join entertainer Doctor Noize for a special live musical performance.  This family-friendly indoor concert will be fun for kids of all ages, but note there are a limited number of concert tickets so buy online ahead of time.

Where: Denver Botanic Gardens, 1007 York Street, Denver, Colo.

When: Saturday: 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

Admission: $12 – Adults; $7 – Kids; (Member discounts available; kids 2 years and under are free.)

Colorado Avalanche vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

What: It’s family night at the Avalanche game.  This special promotional night allows you to buy a family 4-pack of tickets to see these the Avs take on the Tampa Bay Lightning.  Promotional package also includes stadium credit good for food, beverages or team merchandise purchases.  It’s a value of a deal for a night of fast-paced NHL action.
