DENVER — If you're looking for something fun to do in Denver and around the metro area — even in the midst of a pandemic — we have a few suggestions to keep you and the whole family entertained. Enjoy!
1. Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) PurpleStride is going Virtual on Sunday, June 28. Purple Stride is an incredible community celebration and fundraiser. You can register for PurpleStride here and make sure to join their Facebook Group to connect with fellow participants and learn more about virtual activities for event day.
2. Four Mile Historic Park has reopened on weekends (Friday to Sunday) from 10am – 4pm using a timed-ticket system. The park, home to Denver’s oldest house, offers 12-acers of history to explore. Visitors can tour the historic house, museum, stroll the gardens and grounds, pan for “gold,” and visit the farm animals. Tickets must be purchased in advance and visitors and staff must adhere to all Colorado safety guidelines and continue social distancing measures while in the park.
3. Parker Arts Drive-In Series is bringing concerts, trivia night and more to the PACE Center parking lot. This Friday, June 26, check out their twist on trivia night with a drive-in trivia extravaganza! Bring your smart phone and play along on the big screen. You can bring food, drinks and enjoy the fun while social distancing from your car. There may even be a few prizes in store! The event goes from 8:30-10pm and the price is $30 per vehicle.
4. Live music returns! The Arapahoe Philharmonic Brass Quintet will perform a 45-50 minute recital of traditional Americana, light classical and jazzy favorites. The show will take place on Saturday, June 27 at 5pm at Calvary Baptist Church and Sunday, June 28th at 5pm at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. In an effort to keep everyone safe, these will be “drive up” concerts – their volunteers will direct you where to park and you can shut off your engine, roll down your windows and enjoy the concert from the comfort and safety of your own vehicle. The concert is free and donations are greatly appreciated.
5. 88 Drive-In Theatre offers movies every night of the week! The last remaining original drive-in in the Denver metro area (their theater has been showing flicks since 1972), 88 Drive-In offers $9 per person tickets – with children 12 and under admitted for free. Admission includes all movies, usually a triple feature. They are currently only admitting 250 cars a night to maintain social distancing and parking will be strictly enforced. Patrons must maintain 6 feet of separation while standing in line for food trucks and restrooms. The movie line-up changes every free weeks so make sure to check back often!
6. Global Pride 2020 is a 24-hour stream of content created by Pride events from around the globe. The event will start streaming at 11pm (MST) on Friday, June 26 and will stream live for 24 hours. Highlights include speeches, performances, film and more from Prides in Africa, Europe, Asia, Oceania and the Americas. Global Pride was launched in response to the cancellation and postponement of vents due to COVID-19.
7. The 2020 Annual Children’s Festival: Larger Than Life goes virtual! This yeah the Imagination State Children’s Festival will include fun livestreamed activities. Kids will have the chance to enjoy a paper flower workshop, a storytelling activity, Thumbelina Kamishibai (a form of Japanese storytelling) created by award-winning director and playwright Natsu Onoda Powera, a scavenger hunt, a taekwondo workshop and cookie decorating.
