HANOVER, Colo. (KOAA) — The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has lifted an evacuation order and a pre-evacuation order for an area near Hanover on Thursday afternoon.

As of Thursday morning, the fire continued to burn northeast along Squirrel Road. A total of 20 fire agencies from across the region responded to the fire on Wednesday; that response is down to 10 agencies on Thursday.

According to the Hanover Fire Department, the fire had burned 4,200 acres as of Wednesday evening. The fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon around 3:00 p.m. and spread quickly with the elevated winds and fire threats.
The Hanover School District has closed schools for Thursday. Hanover Junior-Senior High School is open as a shelter for evacuated community members.
A large animal shelter is now open at the Norris Penrose Event Center, near the I-25 and West Cimarron Street interchange.
If you plan on bringing livestock, you are asked to check in at the intake table on the southeast side of the Grand Arena before unloading your animals.
El Paso County says that if you have trouble finding the barn or need help bringing your animals to the shelter, you can call (719) 722-6097.
