Across the country, restaurants have been closed to customers due to the coronavirus pandemic. While some were able to get by offering takeout and delivery, the industry has struggled to stay afloat during this difficult time. In response, many eateries are changing their business model to adapt to the new challenges.

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Inc. has now reopened 505 of its 664 nationwide restaurants for limited dine-in service. In a bid to boost sales, the roadside favorite will now be experimenting with a beer and wine program.

The family restaurant chain is known for its country theme, famous gift stores and expansive comfort-food menu. Now, they hope the availability of alcoholic drinks will be another draw for diners.

In January, Cracker Barrel began offering beer and wine on the menu at restaurants in Florida. The beer and wine program is now on the menu at 20 locations, according to Nation’s Restaurant News.

Along with the introduction of alcoholic beverages, the company is also rolling out a new menu from their kitchen, which includes entrees such as chicken pot pie and Saturday fried pork chops. They also plan to continue to offer delivery and curbside pickup.

“The past several months have presented unprecedented challenges for Cracker Barrel, the industry and our country,” CEO Sandra B. Cochran said in a press release. “I believe our strategic priorities, such as accelerating our off-premise business, combined with the rapid actions we took to bolster liquidity, strengthen our business model and adapt our operations to the circumstances have positioned us well for the recovery period to come.”

According to Delish, as part of the new alcoholic offerings, guests can order mimosas, which are available in orange and strawberry flavors.
