Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chief’s quarterback, has racked up a number of titles in recent years. He was named NFL’s Most Valuable Player of the 2018-2019 season, and he went on to win a Super Bowl championship with his team in 2020. Then, a few weeks ago, he proposed to his sweetheart, Brittany Matthews.

Now, the newly engaged couple has dropped even bigger news on the world via social media: Mahomes and Matthews are expecting their first child!

On Sept. 29, Matthews posted a photo of the happy couple embracing while holding an ultrasound picture.

“Just taking a small detour to the wedding,” Matthews posted on Twitter.

The proud papa-to-be shared the same image with a simple heart emoji in the caption on his official Instagram account.

On Sept. 1, Mahomes proposed to Matthews, whom he has dated since high school.

The big event happened at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. Mahomes had just received his Super Bowl ring earlier in the day, but he decided that that monumental event wasn’t quite special enough.

After receiving his own ring, he then offered one to the love of his life. Mahomes decked out a luxury suite at the stadium with flowers, candles and a marquee sign that read, “Will You Marry Me?”

Matthews, of course, said, “Yes!”

“On a day that was meant to celebrate you, you turned it into celebrating us,” Matthews wrote alongside the photos on Twitter. “On a day that was meant to celebrate you, you turned it into celebrating us … You made this day perfect, you took my entire breathe away! I LOVE YOU.”

Now, these two lovebirds will not only get to plan a wedding, but also prepare for a little one to arrive sometime in 2021. Congratulations to the happy couple!
