Watch Carrie Underwood Belt Out ‘Drinking Alone’ From Her Couch

Carrie Underwood has made a living out of performing to sell-out crowds around the world. But the country music star didn’t need a huge stadium or even a live band playing behind her for her most recent knockout performance. In fact, she sang a number right from the comfort of her own home as part of a larger televised country music special.

Underwood was one of many artists to participate in “ACM Presents: Our Country on April 5. The two-hour special was scheduled to take the place of the American Country Music Awards that were originally slated to take place. Due to the coronavirus, organizers decided to push the ceremony to Sept. 16, but they quickly put together a series of videos from country superstars to help fans stay connected with their favorite artists and to remind everyone of the power of music during difficult times.

“There’s a lot of uncertainty about how long this will last, but one thing we do know is the healing power of music,” said Gayle King, the special’s host. “And nobody — I mean nobody — is better at nursing that power than country music artists.”

Underwood’s song choice seemed to fit our social distancing time: “Drinking Alone” from her 2018 album “Cry Pretty.” The 12-time ACM Award winner sat on her couch in her Nashville home with a glass of red wine as she addressed fans watching the special.

“This song actually seems to be striking a chord — more than ever with a lot of you these days — especially while so many of us are riding things out at home,” she said before her song, which you can watch below.

“I’m sorry we can’t all be together in person tonight,” she said. “but I’m glad we can still find ways to be connected and to celebrate community and the healing power of music. So let’s continue to support each other and stay strong until we can all be together again.”

We’re loving that so many musicians are sharing their songs from their homes now. (Or, in the case of the Backstreet Boys, all five of their homes!) Thanks for keeping the music alive!
