Skill, heart needed for Unified Basketball Colorado player

Posted

AURORA, Colo. -- Playing any kind of team sport takes skill and heart.

At 6-foot-3, Isaac Dolson brings skill, heart and height to the Special Olympics Unified Sports team at Smoky Hill High School.

Denver7 Special Olympics reporter Hanna Atkinson asked Isaac what the hardest thing about being involved in Unified sports is.

“Running. Definitely running up and down the court,” answered Isaac.

Over the past four years, Isaac says Special Olympics Colorado has not only helped him become a better athlete, but a better person.

“I learned how to be social with people, be nice, respectful to everybody and play hard,” Isaac said. “I wasn’t really talkative Freshman year. I was really quiet. Now I talk to everyone.”

That confidence has carried over to the court.

“No one can rebound over me,” Isaac said proudly.

This fall, Isaac is planning on going to community college to major in the computer and technology field.

He’s setting goals and achieving them, something Unified sports and Special Olympics does for thousands of Colorado athletes every year.

“I like it a lot,” Isaac said. “We represent our school. It’s great.”
