An alpine skiing coach is making a difference in the lives of Special Olympics Colorado athletes, and Denver7 caught up with him at Copper Mountain to discover what drives him to help his students to succeed.
"The reward is the camaraderie of it all," said Mark Field, who is also the father of a talented Special Olympics athlete. His expertise on the slopes helps athletes, including his son, achieve their goals and pursue their dreams.
He’s been coaching for Special Olympics Colorado for the last 12 years and has been the head coach of the Cherry Creek Alpine Ski Team for the past four years.
“Everyone of our athletes has a challenge and they ski and overcome those challenges," Field said.
Mark spends a lot of his time helping athletes craft their skills and works around several schedules to make the practices and events happen.
He knows first-hand the effects Special Olympics has on athletes. His son, Cody, is one of the top snowboarders in the country and will be competing in the upcoming world games.
