DENVER -- The excitement begins before athletes even get into All-City Stadium at Denver’s South High School.
Fans forming a tunnel and clapping in unison as the athletes are dropped off for the games.
This is the Special Olympics Colorado Track & Field competition for students in Denver Public Schools.
“It’s awesome,” Cecilia Caldera of Doull Elementary told Denver7’s Eric Lupher. “It just gives me so much joy that everyone loves our kids and they’re super excited to be here.”
The athletes came from eight different schools to compete in running, jumping and throwing competitions.
But with high fives, hugs and ribbons, everyone leaves a winner.
